Kate combines her decades of experience as a professional actor, director, and lifelong learner for a perfect identification with her students. From this insight, Kate encourages the actor to become as independent as possible from the director — especially from the actor’s own “inner director.”
Kate articulates a respectful and practical teaching style she adapted from her own mentors: Stephen Strimpell, Austin Pendleton, and the legendary actor/teacher/author Uta Hagen, with whom she studied for six years.
Most importantly, Kate scoffs at the cynical view that “actors either have it or they don’t.” She sites her own growth as an artist as evidence that any actor will improve, as long as they bring a personal discipline, courage, humility, and trust to the classroom and beyond.
Kate currently coaches actors privately, taught her own advanced class for professionals, and has taught adults and children with all levels of experience at Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Michigan State University (master classes), and HB Studio.
